Waltham High School | Waltham, MA | SMMA
Waltham High School opened in the Fall of 2024 as a New 415,000 sf comprehensive high school for 1,830 students that includeing14 CTE programs. The school’s design reflects its diverse curriculum. Four “learning clusters” extend from the school’s core: Humanities, STE(A)M, Fine and Performing Arts, and Health, Wellness, and Athletics. The clusters are connected by common areas and gathering spaces. To leave more of the site untouched, SMMA developed four-level school building along with parking underneath raised playing fields.
My role in this project started during Design Development. I assisted in the development and coordination or the CTE and Vocational spaces along with assisting in interior detailing and construction document development throughout the building. I continued on to Construction Administration participating in many components of CA. Our team was on site multiple days a week for OAC meetings, Coordination meetings, and walk throughs with the construction management team. I was responsible for the architectural field reports along with receiving, reviewing and distributing the engineering and consultant field reports. I managed the architectural submittal review and assisted with the interiors when necessary along with answering RFIs and developing related ASIs and PRs. I took on the responsibility of overseeing the punch listing by working with the construction manager to develop standards and expectations and set the schedule and coordination with the design team to complete punch listing.
